About the Prints

We are pleased to offer selected images for purchase as fine art prints. Sam has studied the art of digital print making from such masters as Charles Cramer and Bill Atkinson, and personally makes each print utilizing the finest digital printmaking techniques. First, an extremely high-resolution drum scan is made from the original transparency. Sam then opens the image in Adobe Photoshop and refines it using subtle dodging, burning, and color balancing techniques to make a faithful reproduction of the original transparency. All of the work is done in a calibrated workflow on a Macintosh workstation to ensure the highest degree of accurate color reproduction. The final prints are made using inks that have an archival rating of over 60 years. The prints are finished with a signed, acid free museum board mat.

The majority of Sam’s images are in 35mm format and have an aspect ratio of 1:1.5. Thus, the resulting prints have actual image dimensions that are somewhat smaller than traditional, industry-standard paper sizes. For example, an 11x14 inch print will actually be 9x13.5 inches. To make a print that filled a full 11x14 sheet, significant cropping would be needed. The chart below shows the actual print size as it corresponds to the traditional sheet size. The acid free museum board mat is cut to overlap the print by approximately 1/4 inch on each side to ensure that none of the white border around the print is revealed.
